Today I would like to introduce you to Mr. Frank Lloyd Wright.  Although the name may sound familiar, you may not have known that this architectural genius was from a small town called Richland Center, Wisconsin.  Mr. Wright is one of the most famous Wisconsinites we have, not to mention one of the most highly regarded architects of the 20th century.  Throughout the span of his 70-year career he designed 1141 works, 532 of which were completed and 409 of which are still standing.  Wright´s work is markedly influenced by nature, which he attributes to spending his summers in the rural Wisconsin countryside as a child.  Apart from buildings and homes, Wright also designed lamps, fabrics and furniture, as well as being a prolifc writer, an educator and a philosopher.  Ladies and gentleman, Mr. Frank Lloyd Wright!

Hoy me gustaría presentaros a Sr. Frank Lloyd Wright.  Aunque te suene el nombre, igual no sabías que este genio de la arquitectura era de un pueblo pequeño que se llama Richland Center, Wisconsin. Sr. Wright es de los Wisconsinitas más famosos que hay, por no mencionar uno de los arquitectos más respetados del siglo veinte. A lo largo de una carrera de 70 años, Wright diseñó 1141 obras, 532 de los cuales se llevaron a cabo y 409 de los cuales todavía se mantienen en pie.  Sus obras son considerablemente influidos por la naturaleza, algo que él atribuye a los veranos que pasaba rodeado de los paisajes rurales de Wisconsin cuando era niño.  Aparte de diseñar edificios y casas, también diseñaba lámparas, telas y muebles, así como ser escritor prolífico, profesor y filósofo.  ¡Damas y caballeros, Sr. Frank Lloyd Wright!

Misconsin

In my case, living away from home always creates the necessity to share things about where I come from.  It happened to me when I went to college, when I was in La Crosse, Wisconsin, only three hours away by car from my beloved hometown of Hubertus, Wisconsin.  So why wouldn´t it happen now that I am in Soria, Spain, or an equivalent of 8 hours by plane, and two hours by car (depending on traffic), away?  By the way, in Wisconsin we like to measure distance by time. 

This blog is meant to give people an idea of ¨My Wisconsin¨, or as we say in Soria, ¨Misconsin¨.

Para mi, estar fuera de casa siempre me crea la necesidad de compartir cosas de mi tierra nativa.  Ya me pasaba cuando estaba en la universidad, a solo tres horas en coche de mi querido pueblo Hubertus, Wisconsin.  ¿Entonces, cómo no me iba a pasar estando en Soria, España a unas diez horas (entre avión y coche) de casa? Por cierto, en Wisconsin se mide la distancia en horas en vez de millas.
